JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) was formed to make the city of Boston the best place in the United States for working women by closing the wage gap. It is a public-private partnership between the City of Boston and Boston-area employers who sign what is known as the Boston Compact pledging them to seek gender equity in their firms and to provide funding for the Council’s operations. The Executive Director (ED) of the Council is the senior staff person charged with the outreach, operations and oversight of Council matters. The ED reports directly to the chair (s) of the Council and to the leader of the Mayor’s Office for the Advancement of Women who together comprise the Executive Committee of the Council. Boston University is the fiscal sponsor of the BWWC, and houses its staff within the University’s Hariri Institute.

As the senior staff member of the BWWC, the ED is a thought leader in the area of gender equity. She/he has direct responsibility for engaging with senior officers of the employers who have signed the Compact and who fund BWWC efforts and senior staff in the Mayor’s Office. Her/his role is to engage with the issues faced by Boston companies as they seek to eliminate the wage gap; to provide insights and support as they meet the reporting requirements of the Boston Compact. The ED works with the members of the Council, its chair(s) and the Mayor’s Office on expanding the reach of the Council, on recruiting new Compact signers and on broadening the understanding of the Council’s work in Massachusetts, nationally and internationally. The ED is assisted in her/his work by an administrative assistant and several interns as needed.

LOGISTICS:

The office is located at the Boston University Hariri Institute (111 Cummington Mall Boston, MA 02215), though the position may include local travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience and demonstrated experience in building relationships with executives and managers. Master's degree preferred.
